Typical Work
The transportation industry is one where you will need to move people, furniture, packages, or other items via a wide variety of delivery services. For the most part these are mechanical such as cars, trucks, limousines, airplanes or bicycles. In the transportation service you will usually fall into one of three categories: people, furniture or delivery items. Transporting people usually falls into the field of moving people from one point to another, in numerous means (Taxi, Limousine, Bus, Airplane). Careers in moving furniture is usually done by household moving companies that move furniture from one house to another or for a company moving offices. Delivery companies (such as FedEx and UPS) move packages worldwide for businesses and people.

Education and Training Necessary
The level of education in the transportation industry is fairly low. Many transportation employees do not have any post secondary education; many do not even have secondary education. Most people in the industry need to have a driver's license, obviously those that are drivers, chauffeurs, or delivery people. Many people in the management/operations component of the transportation industry have bachelor's degrees in the field of operations management or business administration. In many cases, training will be provided by your employer on how the operation functions and their role in it.

Skills and Interests
For a career in the transportation field you will need good direction skills, customer service skills and driving skills. Typically those moving furniture or office equipment need to be in good physical condition and able to lift or move heavy objects.

Salary Range
The range for all those who are front line employees in the transportation industry is given below.
$ 18, 000 - $ 37, 000
Those in the management or operations management aspect of the company typically make a far greater salary with a range of $60, 000 - $ 150, 000 or more.
