Career as a Sports Coach/Instructor
Coaches and Instructors teach athletes and other individuals the skills and fundamentals of a particular sport. A coach is responsible for organizing a team or training an individual athlete on how to play a sport, what the rules are and assigning roles. A coach is usually a leader and an individual who can command respect from his athletes. Coaches often work on a volunteer basis but professional coaches can obtain high salaries working at the university level or in professional sports. Professional coaches often work very long schedules as their tasks also include many administrative, and preparation duties (such as running practice and watching game film). The work is often very stressful and includes early mornings, late nights, weekends and a great deal of travel.
Instructors are often skilled at a particular sport or skilled in teaching. They will train athletes on the fundamentals and skills of a sport. The instructor will often work one on one with an athlete or with a group. Instructors can command a great salary for teaching an athlete and keep fairly regular hours.
