Career as an Athelete
Athletes are entertainers who play a particular sport at either the professional or amateur level. There are a wide variety of sports in which athletes can participate and often playing a sport is a hobby. As a professional an athlete will perform in front of large groups of people in competition as either an individual or as a member of a team. Professional athletes can often command a large salary but usually only at the highest international level of their sport. Many professional athletes work in minor leagues for small salaries due to the potential opportunity to reach the professional level and greater pay. Athletes live with the risk of potentially suffering a major injury daily. The risk of career ending injury makes the work stressful. The work life of an athlete is usually short due to the effects it has on the body. There are many opportunities for athletes to obtain post-secondary education due to university or college scholarships. Also athletes often have many opportunities to travel for competitions; this can be either international or domestic travel. Often athletes will find themselves working very irregular hours due to practices during the day and games or competitions in the evenings and on the weekends. Also many times they will be forced to travel away from home for long periods of time.
