Resume writers typically work on a contractual basis, for a non-profit group or for a government department. There are many consultants in the field today working on individual contracts improving others resumes.

Resume writers can have special education or training in the fields of writing, communications, human resources and hiring processes. If they do not write an entire essay, they will critique a resume and make the necessary changes. Resume writers should be very strong proofreaders and need some formal training or experience.
