A career in home care will involve completing a variety of tasks that are normally referred to as 'chores.' For most of the careers in home care you will be responsible for cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, cooking, cleaning, babysitting, washing clothes, preparing meals, gardening, doing house repairs, or other day to day chores. Some of the careers are a little more specialized than others such as pool cleaner, snow remover or exterminator. Careers in this field require a variety of individuals for a variety of positions; rarely will one person be able to do to all of the above tasks. It requires different skills and training as well as different interests to complete each one of these jobs. Typically you will be hired by a either a service provider such as a lawn care company, a house cleaning company, a catering company, or a house repair company and then contracted out to do these various tasks at peoples homes. In some cases you will be self-employed (many maids or lawn mowers are) and you will seek out your own clients. Sometimes you will be hired by one employer and will work very closely with that employer sometimes even living at the residency.
Education or Training Required
Many of these careers require no formal education (such as a bachelor's degree or a diploma) and a few do not even require any training what so ever. In some of these positions you will receive on the job training, such as snow removal, lawn mower, pool cleaner. While in others you may have to attend a career school and learn about the trade, such as a butler, or groundskeeper. Some careers such as a personal chef may require a great deal of education and experience working in the related field.
Skills or Interests
For most of these positions you will need to work for someone else doing their daily tasks. As a maid you will have to clean house, a groundskeeper may have to garden and mow the lawn, a chef will have to prepare meals for the homeowners. In nearly all of these careers you will be providing your services to someone in exchange for salary. Therefore you must be willing to work directly for an individual. Interests can range from working outside, cooking to laundry, there are a variety of tasks that people hire outside workers for and you may be the person called upon to clean house, or remove snow from the driveway.
