Career as a Plumber
Plumbers are responsible for the constructing and maintaining a water system within a household or business. The work of a plumber includes pipefitting, pipe laying, fixing leaks, cleaning pipes, installing appliances, connecting a water system to a municipalities main system and installing disposal systems (toilets, septic tanks, etc.). Cooling and heating water systems that plumbers also install sometimes control many buildings heating systems. Plumbers work in customers' homes, buildings, and usually for municipalities at their water processing plants. The work plumbers do usually involves lifting heavy pipes, working in cramped positions and working in wet or damp environments.
Plumbers typically learn through training programs followed by apprenticeships. Total training will usually take 4 to 5 years of working in the field with classroom teaching coinciding. Plumbers are usually members of a craft union and are often forced to join a union before they can practice their trade.
Plumbers' salaries will range from $10 - $ 25/hour.
Job Opportunities are very common due to a lack of skilled plumbers in the job marketplace and a strong demand for them in the home building industry. Many plumbers now own their own businesses making excellent salaries.
