Career in Landscaping
Landscape workers often design, install and maintain a lawn or garden. This can involve laying sods, installing sprinkler systems, planting plants and flowers, clearing hedges, uprooting trees, cutting branches and other tasks done around a garden or lawn. Many landscapers also work in lawn maintenance using fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals to keep lawns healthy while at the same time mowing them. The work is typically labourious and involves a great deal of physical activity. The work is done at peoples homes, offices, parks, universities and many other areas where there is some green space. The work is typically seasonal as well. The spring and summer is the main working season for those in the industry, typically they may be unable to find work in their profession during the winter.
Generally there are no education requirements and those in the industry often have only secondary education. Most learn through on the job training or by apprenticeship.
The salary range for landscapers can be quite large from a minimum wage to a higher wage for specialists.
