Typical Work
In a career in events you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, attending, working and cleaning at the event. The different tasks require different types of people. From a small group gathering to a large conference, event staff will be needed at all levels. The different positions are required for different tasks. Planners need to find a location, book a caterer, book the necessary event equipment, and book staff to work at the event. Coordinators can be responsible for overseeing and managing the event. Other careers in the field are related to actually working at the event. Typically people in the events field will be employed by hotels, conference centers, cruise ships, event planning companies, caterers, and many own their own business. Those who own their own business can be hired on a contractual basis to plan the event. Some people work in this field on a part time basis (Photographer and Video Maker especially) turning a hobby into a career.

Education and Training Needed
A career in the events field requires different levels of education and training. While most people do not attend a university or obtain a bachelor's degree, many will go to a technical school or career college. There are various programs in event planning available for these people, mostly in the field of planning, coordinating and wedding planning. Some of the other careers also require training; a photographer and a video maker must be skilled in these areas and have knowledge of the equipment that they are using, which can be obtained through formal education. Caterers often have training in preparing meals for large groups of people. They can make uniform meals for a great deal of guests. Caterers are often individuals who have some training or education in the culinary arts.

Skills and Interests
To pursue a career in events you should have an interest in making events a tremendous success and want all guests have an enjoyable time. Those that work in the field need to be resourceful, dedicated, punctual, well organized and have great customer service skills. It is very much a service career as you will mostly be working for someone in order to make his or her event successful and you will have to do everything you can to make that happen

Salary Range
Some of the careers in the events field can be very high paying, especially if you come highly recommended. Some of the careers (Wait staff, cleaners, etc.) do not pay very well. Also some people work in the field on a part time basis therefore their earnings will be very low making for a wide range.
